X's flight model could be described as "arcadey" at best. Which will have a very real effect in that said faction won't be able to pump out warships as fast - becasue their shipyards aren't getting fed - because you're messing with their economy. You can corner the market on a good, produce everything in the game yourself, or go into a trade war with another faction and take out their transports and miners to cripple their entire economy. In X you can actually have an effect on the galactic economy. You're never just travelling though space in a straight line for two hours to get where you're going. There's quests and missions and enemies to fight and stations to hack and all kinds of crap all in the same sector minutes from each other. There's cool stuff to do thrown in your face every km you travel. X on the other hand is a "theme park" type setup. It's just moving some numbers around on an excel sheet. ![]() There's no simulation of ore being processed to refined metals, and then those metals turned into hull parts, and then those hull parts processed into ship engines, and then finally those ship engines are sold to a ship builder to create a ship. Elite has no real economy - trading wares is there to give the player credits and that's that. Because of this, it's FAR more spread out and takes longer to get to the action. It's like what it would actually really be like to fly through the Milky Way in a Starship.
